William Vitler Prior and Ann Gander were married at St Oswald's Church, Hooe, Sussex on 20 January 1777. Ann was the daughter of Henry Gander & Jane Simmonds. Her baptism was recorded in Hooe on 20 May 1756. The witnesses at the wedding were Elizabeth Russell and William Russell, who may have been family members or friends of couple. It appears that Ann already had a son named Thomas Gander, born in 1774. William & Ann probably spent the rest of their lives living and working in Hooe. In most of the records found William’s occupation was described as agricultural labourer; it was quite usual in those days for people to live and work on a farm or estate all their lives.
William was buried in Hooe Churchyard on 7
September 1800, aged 45 years. Ann was buried there on 26 January
1837, aged 80 years. |
