William was the third child of William
Vitler & Ann Gander. He was baptised at St Oswald's, Hooe
on He married Emma Chatfield on 31 October 1805 at St Peters Church in Bexhill. Emma was the daughter of John Chatfield & Martha Edmunds, and she was baptised in St Peter’s on 24 December 1786. William & Emma had 13 children: John 1807-1868, married Harriet Pelham in 1825. William 1809-1874. Jeremiah 1812-1862, married Ann Hutchinson in 1834. Emma 1814-1856, married Thomas Freeman in 1833. Martha born 1816, married William Berrey in 1834. Philadelphia 1818-1892, two illegitimate sons, married William Stonestreet in 1854. 3 more children. Joseph 1820-1853, married Louisa Parker in 1848. Charlotte 1822-18934, married Henry Lewis in 1840. Harriett 1825-1895, married Edward Roberts in 1845. Sarah 1826-1895, married Stephen Carey in 1846. Thomas 1828-1834. James 1830-1907, married his brother Joseph’s widow Louisa in 1860. Eliza 1833-1883, married Stephen Newnham in 1855.
William and Emma appear on the 1841 census
living at Crowhurst Cottage in Hooe. William’s occupation was an
agricultural labourer. William was buried in Hooe Churchyard on 15
June 1841. Emma was also buried in
there on 14 February 1850. |
