Thomas was the 6th child of Henry
& Hannah Vitler. He was baptised in Hooe on On 18 August 1839 he married Jane Marchant at St Mary Magdalen’s Church in Wartling. The witnesses at the wedding were James & Harriet Vitler. Jane was the daughter of Thomas & Mary Marchant, and was born c1811 at Herstmonceux. Thomas and Jane had five children: Benjamin 1839-1918, married Emma French Henry 1842-1899, married Ann Elizabeth Waite Elizabeth, 1845-1931 Thomas 1847-1924, married Caroline Hollands George 1849-1914, married Ellen Cheal Thomas, Jane and their family appear in various censuses living and working in Hooe. Jane died in 1874, and Thomas died in 1909. Both were buried in Hooe churchyard, where there is a memorial inscription for Jane:
