Thomas was the first son born to William and Philadelphia Stonestreet. He was baptised in Mayfield, Sussex on 4 November 1855. In 1871, aged 15, he was working as an agricultural labourer in Hadlow. The family had moved to West Peckham by 1881, when Thomas was recorded as a poultry man. Thomas married his cousin, Eleanor Everest on 21 June 1882 at Malling registry office. The witnesses at the wedding were Frederick and Sarah Woodward. Eleanor was the daughter of William and Mary Ann Everest. The couple had two daughters: Helen, born in 1883, was living and working in Sheerness as a housemaid by 1901. On 25 May 1906 she married John William Batchelor at Dartford registry office. Theodora was born in 1890. She was recorded on the 1901 census living with her uncle and aunt, William and Sarah Vittler in Queenborough, Sheppey. She is believed to have married Joseph Nichols in 1920. In 1891 the family were living in Chiddingstone, when Thomas was an Evangelist preacher. The following year Thomas was the informant at his mother’s death. It is believed that Eleanor died in 1895, and that Thomas died before 1906, although to date his death has not been found. |
