Stephen Thomas Flatman was the eldest child of Robert and Mary Ann Flatman,
 and was born c1863 in Hooe, Sussex.  He was baptised on 31 May 1863, at St Oswald's Church, Hooe.

Stephen married Elizabeth Clara Moore in 1882.  She was born 1865 in Bermondsey, London.

The couple had seven children.
