HOOE INQUEST. – On Saturday, Charles Sheppard, Esq., Coroner, held an inquest at the Red Lion Inn, on the body of a child named Sarah Vidler, aged one year and eight months. It appeared from the evidence of the mother that on the previous Wednesday, towards evening, she made a can of cocoa to take out to her husband in the harvest field, and placed it on the table, boiling, but whilst she was gone to the cupboard to get some food, the little thing pulled the can and its contents over its face, chest and arms. She at once stripped the child and dressed the burns, and sent for the doctor the next morning. The child lingered till yesterday and then died. She had eight other children living. Dr. Simons, surgeon, Boreham, stated that the death ensued from the shock occasioned by the scalding. If he had been called to see the deceased on the evening of the accident it would, in his opinion have been of no avail. – The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death".
