Rosina Amelia Goldsmith Savers was the second daughter of Amelia Savers, and was born on 2 April 1847 in Whites Row, Portsea. Her mother died when she was eight years old, and Rosina and her brother went to live with their Aunt, Mary Ann Read, and her family. Their Uncle, Robert Read, was a coastguard, and in about 1856 the family moved, first to Suffolk, then to Dover in Kent, and later to Gravesend. It was in Gravesend that Rosina married Edward Thomas Rogers, on 16 June 1872 in Holy Trinity Church, Milton. Edward was born c1852 in Deal, Kent, and was the son of John and Elizabeth Rogers. The family later moved
to Deal, and Rosina kept in close touch with her sister, Sarah, and
their Aunt Mary and her family. It is believed that in the late 1880s Rosina and
Edward parted, and that he went to live in America. However, Rosina
always
kept a lighted lamp in her window in case he returned.

Rosina then brought up her two daughters alone, working as a charwoman and laundress to support them. She also took in lodgers. Rosina liked to crochet and often made little camisoles and other pieces for Agnes and her grand daughters. She adored her grandchildren, although they lived too far away to visit often.
