Michael Isted and Elizabeth Ballard were married on 25 December 1834, in St Peter's Church, Ashburnham. The witnesses at the wedding were Thomas Hoad and Elizabeth Symons. Michael was born c1809, and is thought to be the son of John Isted and Mary Ticehurst. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Ballard and Mary Hobden. She is believed to have been born on 21 June 1811, and baptised in St Peter's Church, Ashburnham. After their marriage the couple lived in Ashburnham and nearby Ninfield, raising their family of nine children: Michael died in 1877, and was buried in Ashburnham churchyard. Elizabeth then lived in Alms Houses in Ashburnham, until she died in Battle Union Workhouse in 1891. She was buried in Penhurst churchyard. |
