Maria Isted was the daughter of Ruth Isted, and was born on 26 November 1861, in Union Workhouse, Hellingly, East Sussex. After her mother married James Vidler in 1864, Maria was brought up as James's daughter, and lived with the family in Ashburnham, Sussex, until her marriage to Edwin Dawes on 24 April 1884, at St Peter's Church, Ashburnham. Edwin Dawes was born c1861, in Herstmonceux, Sussex, and was the son of George & Caroline Dawes. At the time of his marriage Edwin was a plumber, and we believe he continued in the trade. Maria & Edwin later moved to Dragon House, Wartling, where we find them living at the time of the 1891 census. Maria is believed to have died in 1938. |
