Joseph Foster was born in about 1839, and was the son of Jesse and Mary Foster. He was christened in 1839 at St Oswald's, Hooe, in East Sussex. The family later moved to nearby Ninfield, where they lived for many years. Joseph is believed to have married Jane Collins. Jane was born in Bexhill in about 1835. Joseph and Jane settled in Camberwell, London, where, in 1891, Joseph's occupation was a Brewer's Drayman. Joseph and Jane had two children, one of whom may have emigrated to Australia, where some of their descendants currently live. Jane is believed to have died in 1891.
