Fall from Cycle

 CATSFIELD MAN FATALLY INJURED

A middle-aged man, Mr Joseph Clifford Foster, of Catsfield Stream, died on Tuesday night at the Buchanan Hospital, Hastings, following injuries which he sustained in a fall from his bicycle while riding near his home on Saturday night. Mr Arthur Dench, who also lives at the Stream, heard a crash at about 9.30 p.m. while in his house. On going out into the road he found Mr Foster lying beside the machine bleeding profusely from the face and hands. P.C. Walker and Dr. Perl were summoned and the latter ordered the injured man’s removal to hospital. It is believed that Mr Foster’s spill was sustained as a result of his bicycle colliding with the kerb.

The Hastings Borough Coroner (Mr H.C. Davenport Jones) has been informed and will hold an inquest at the Buchanan Hospital this evening.

TRAGIC DEATH OF CATSFIELD MAN

As reported in last week’s issue, Mr Joseph Clifford Foster, of Catsfield Stream, died in the Buchanan Hospital at St Leonards on Tuesday of last week following injuries believed to have been sustained in a fall from his bicycle when riding near his home. The inquest was held at the hospital on Friday by the Hastings Borough Coroner, Mr H.C. Davenport Jones.

Charles Foster, of Fir Tree House, Ninfield Green, son of the dead man, said deceased had suffered from gastric trouble. At 9.30 p.m. on the previous Saturday his father left him at the King’s Arms Inn, saying he was not going to ride his bicycle home as he had no lamp.

Arthur Dent, a labourer, said that at 9.30 p.m. on Saturday he was in his house when he heard a thud. He went outside and heard a gurgling noise, and found Mr Foster lying in the road entangled in his bicycle. He was unable to pick him up, and so he stopped a motor cyclist, who helped him get Foster to the side of the road. There was a large pool of blood in the middle of the road. The Ninfield police were called, and the man’s head was bathed. Dr Pearl, of Battle, was called to the scene.
