John Vidler

John Vidler was the sixth child of James & Ruth Vidler. He was born in Ashburnham, East Sussex on 9 March 1875, and spent his early life there. John married Elizabeth Ruth Smith on 14 January 1904 in Ashburnham. The witnesses at the wedding were James Harmer and Alice Isted. Elizabeth was born c1882, and was the daughter of Walter and Naomi Smith. We believe that John & Elizabeth were distant cousins, both being descended from the Gander family. A further connection is that John’s brother William had married Elizabeth’s sister Alice in 1901.
John & Elizabeth lived in
Ashburnham, where their four children were born.
The family later moved to Eugene Cottages in
High Halden, Kent. John died in 1945, and is buried in High Halden
churchyard. Elizabeth died in 1948. |
