Jane was the eldest child of James & Ruth Vidler. She was one of three daughters born to the couple and was born on 11 July 1864 in Ashburnham. She and was baptised there on 6 November 1864. She spent her early years in Ashburnham, and in 1881 was working in Battle as a Domestic Servant in the home of Jane Isted. On 15 July 1886, in Ashburnham, she married Thomas Davis, a Coachbuilder from Battle. The witnesses were William Davis and James Vidler. Thomas was the son of Thomas & Harriet Davis. After their marriage Jane & Thomas lived in first in Battle and later in Hailsham, they had 6 children: Owen 1887-1892, buried in Battle cemetery. Ethel 1888-1933 lived in Eastbourne. Buried in Hailsham cemetery. Thomas, born 1 December 1889, killed in action, aged 27, during World War I in Poperinge, Belgium. Ardon, 1891-1981, emigrated to Canada where he married Faith Bolingbroke on 8 April 1916 in Hamilton City, Ontario. Dorothy, born 1893. Frewen, born 25 January 1894 in Hailsham. At the time of his death in 1914, he was an assistant schoolmaster in Ticehurst, and also a member of the Territorial Army. He was buried in Hailsham cemetery. At the time of the 1891 census the family were living in Mount Street, Battle. Jane died on 17 July 1897 aged 33 years. She was buried in Hailsham churchyard; there is a headstone in Hailsham cemetery in memory of her and her sons Frewen and Thomas. Thomas married Minnie Christiana Ellis in 1898. They had a son, John 1900-1976.

June 1920, aged 57, in Hailsham cemetery. Minnie was buried with him in
