Hannah Christian
An extract from ‘Our Second Pilgrimage - Tales of Old Bexhill’ reads: Old John Christian was foreman for Mr Brook and lived at Church Farm (also owned and carried on by Mr Brook). John was brother to Joshua Christian, who hunted the Harriers on foot for Mr Brook, and when there was the annual dinner of the Odd-Fellows in the old Pleasure House Field (later the Metropolitan Convalescent Home), John’s one and only toast was ‘More corn and less rats’.

Hannah was the third child of Henry & Hannah Vitler. She was baptised in Hooe on 25 October 1812. She probably spent her early life in Hooe, and later moved to Bexhill where she had two children prior to her marriage, Ann in 1832 and Hannah in 1833. Hannah married John Christian in St Peter’s Church Bexhill on 4 August 1833. He was born c1808 and was the son of John Christian and Philadelphia Savage. Hannah and John had nine children together. They appear with their family on various census returns living in Bexhill, where John worked for Arthur Brook Esq. After John died in 1878 Hannah moved to Ringmer, where she died in 1899. Both were buried in St Peter’s churchyard, Bexhill.
