Frederick was the only son of Charles & Charlotte Vitler.  Believed to be born at Platt Cottage, Hooe, he was baptised on 26 September 1875.  His early life was spent in Hooe.

Frederick married Susan Daughtry at Itchingfield on 6 August 1900.  The couple had five children.  After Susan died in 1939, Frederick married Louisa Jane Worsfold in 1942.  Frederick died in 1963.

Frederick’s grandson Leslie Smith recalls:

Grandfather Frederick worked and met his future wife Susan Daughtry (housemaid) at Tanyard Farm, Hooe.  By 1901, they had moved to Back Road, Ninfield before moving to The Green (now Fir Tree Cottage) Ninfield, him having gained employment at Moor Hall Farm.  He was later employed as a foreman at Standard Hill Waterworks, having moved to nearby Stone Cottages.  In 1913 the family moved to Stanarsh Farm, Upper Dicker where Frederick became farm manager.

By 1931 the family had moved again, to East Hoathly where they stayed for a few years.  He then gained employment as farm manager at New House Farm, Wilmington.  By 1939 Grandfather had retired and purchased Plough Cottage in the village of Upper Dicker.  Both he and Susan died there.  Sadly, it was at Plough Cottage that his second wife Louisa Jane committed suicide on 11 October 1954.

Frederick, Susan and Louisa Jane were buried in Holy Trinity Churchyard, Upper Dicker.
