Sophia Eastland, wife of Mr Alfred Eastland buried St Peter Port 19.3.1851.  Grave  plot C1333X  (ref 2358 Candie) bought by Mr Eastland for £1.18s.0d.  This would indicate that he was fairly wealthy because burials usually cost around 6s.0d.

Alfred was buried on 20.12.1909 at Holy Trinity Church, East Peckham

Mary Ann Eastland married William Clapson.   The 1881 census shows that they had at least two children.   William is a widower, living with his daughter Frances (b. about 1851) and William (b. about 1856).   William subsequently married Jane Emily Routh or Rowe  Could the surname be ROWE and not Routh.  I have found a marriage of Jane Emily Stevenson to a William Rowe in Greenwich in 1867 and a death of a 35 year old William in 1874, which would fit rather nicely.

 

In 2006 we visited East Peckham and found the Captain’s grave – also discovered a whole lot of information about the Clapsons and started a new file for them.
