St Oswald's, Hooe

Caroline Ann was born in Hooe in 1834 and baptised at St Oswald’s Church on 13th April 1834.  She was the eldest child of Thomas Freeman and Emma Vitler. 

Caroline married Richard Pocock  in St Oswald’s Church, Hooe on 12th January 1851.  The witnesses at the wedding were the bride’s aunt, Eliza Vitler, and her future husband, Stephen Newnham.

Richard Pocock was born in Westham in 1823, the son of James and Hannah Pocock. He was baptised at St Mary's Church, Westham on 8th June 1823.  The family moved to Hooe, where his father was employed as an agricultural labourer.

Richard also worked as an agricultural labourer, and died in Hooe in 1900.  He was buried at St Oswald’s Church on 12th July 1900, aged 77.  Caroline lived to the age of 89; she died in 1921 and was buried at St Oswald’s Church on 14th October 1921.
